Libertarian “Prosperity Plan” repeals income tax, ends corporate welfare | Libertarian Party-April 14, 2009

April 19, 2009

WASHINGTON — The Libertarian Party seeks to abolish the income tax, enact a balanced budget amendment to the U.S. Constitution and eradicate corporate welfare under an ambitious three-point legislative plan unveiled by America’s third largest party Tuesday.

“Tens of millions of Americans are angry, fed up and demand real reform,” said William Redpath, Libertarian National Committee Chair.  “The Libertarian Party is the only party that agrees with those tens of millions of Americans that government should stay out of both their pocketbook and their personal decisions.”

The following is a letter K. Hargis submitted to in response
to a letter by a detractor of the Tea Party Movement via John Michael Bond:

re: Tax Day Tea Party – Time For The Politicians To Listen

Leave it to a statist to want to suppress free speech and deter
peaceful protest. Mr. Bond seeks to associate the upcoming Tea Party
with FauxNews and partisan politics. Nothing could be further from the

The Tea Partyis, in fact, about the struggle for power (i.e. pure
politics, in the classical sense); it’s about the governed revoking
their tacit consent; it’s about the abolition of tax-slavery.

When government seizeswhatever portion of an individual’s wageit
desires, the people cease to be free, and become slaves to the
government which was founded to serve them.

This is not to protest “taxes raised under Obama”. It is to protest the
existence of a system which taxes production, rather than consumption,
and to assert that the rightsof “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of
Happiness”necessitate an includedright to the fruits of one’s labor.

These tax protests have been occurring annually, for decades, on the
15th day of April, at U.S. Post Offices nationwide. They are not
new.Real Republicans (not neocons), fiscally conservative Democrats
(yes, they do exist), Libertarians, Independents andcontrarians in
general have long engaged in this protest. Now, they are drawing more

Considering that just over 1.6 million people voted for an independent
or third-party candidate in the last presidential election, this only
makes sense. We will not abolish the 16th Amendmentby April 16, nor by
August 16, but support is growing. Even Zach Wamp recently signed on as
a sponsor of the Fair-Tax.

For a better understanding of the tax system wewere intendedto have, I
suggest you read Jefferson’s Second Inaugural Address. In it, Jefferson
poses the question “what farmer, what mechanic, what laborer ever sees
a taxgatherer of the United States”. Sadly, today’s answeris that All
do, on their first day of employment, when they fill out a W-4.

Despite what Mr. Bond thinks, the people attending theTeaPartyare
protesting “something that actually matters and actually affects” them.
They are protesting a tax system which is nothing more than a tool
bureaucrats use to reward those who support them, punish those who
oppose them, and redistribute wealth in a manner that benefits the
incumbent. I can think of little which is more important.

I also noticed that, in his defense of Obama, Mr. Bond draws parallels
betweenObama and Bush 43. It is amazing then, that he fails to realize
that the most significant differences between themare skin tone, and to
which demographic they market themselves. Perhaps marketing has blinded
him to the importance of the issue of taxation, or maybe the issue is
just too complicated to be cool.

Talking Points for Radio Call-In

If any of us call in to a talk radio show, we need to make sure we’re all saying the same thing, so we’ve put together this fact sheet.

The most important thing, especially if you have a limited amount of time, is to start out by saying something like this:

“I want to talk about the Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party that will be held on April 15th from 4-7PM at Ross’s Landing to oppose big government spending.”

By starting out with that, you’re getting the pertinent information out there in case someone is listening.

Here are answers to the basic questions:

Who is responsible for organizing the Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party?

The National Tax Day Tea Party is a national collaborative grassroots effort organized by Smart Girl Politics, Top Conservatives on Twitter, the DontGo Movement and many other online groups/coalitions.

Chattanooga’s Tax Day Tea Party is being organized by Mark West.  Many local individuals and organizations are helping Mark to organize the event.

What is the Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party?

The Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party is a chance for citizens to speak out against out of control government spending.  Over the past 3 months, our national debt has risen to over $11 Trillion because of big-government sponsored spending bills that were passed without considering public opinion.

The Boston Tea Party, a protest which occurred in 1773, was a response to unfair British taxes on tea that were being charged against the will of the people.  In our Tea Party, we will be using this historical model to protest the unchecked government spending that is going on right now.

Where will the Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party Take Place?

The Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party will be held at Ross’s Landing, which is in Downtown Chattanooga behind the Aquarium.

When will the Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party Take Place?

The Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party will be held on tax day, which is, Wednesday, April 15, from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.

Why the Chattanooga Tax Day Tea Party?

Our nation’s leaders have spent dollar after dollar on pork-filled legislation over the past few months.  The whole time, we’ve been speaking out against it, but they have not listened.  On Tax Day, we’ll be joining our voices together with others across our great city and with those in over 400 other cities across the nation, to tell the government that we’re tired of it.

The Constitution starts out with the words, “WE THE PEOPLE.”  The intention of our founding fathers was for WE THE PEOPLE to govern this nation.  Instead, we have been consistently ignored by those who are supposed to REPRESENT the PEOPLE.
